Education and prevention is key to staying healthy. Please share these resources and information with your community.
There is no vaccine available right now to protect against swine flu. There are everyday actions that can help prevent the spread of germs that cause respiratory illnesses like influenza. Take these everyday steps to protect your health:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in
the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze.
Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you get sick with influenza, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and
limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
WELCOME to Glenhope Elementary PTA! Glenhope PTA is a 100% volunteer-driven, non-profit organization whose purpose is to support the children, families and staff of Glenhope Elementary School. Our organization was formed in 1996 and provides many programs and activities for children and families that the school might not otherwise be able to provide.
Being a part of the Texas PTA and National PTA, Glenhope PTA adopts the same mission statement of the National PTA and that is as follows:
PTA Vision
Making every child's potential a reality.
PTA Mission
PTA is a powerful voice for all children,
PTA is a relevant resource for families and communities, and
PTA is a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.
PTA Values
Collaboration - We work in partnership with a wide array of individuals and organizations to accomplish our agreed-upon goals.
Commitment - We are dedicated to promoting children's health, well-being, and educational success through strong parent, family, and community involvement.
Accountability - We acknowledge our obiligations. We deliver on our promise.
Respect - We value our colleagues and ourselves. We expect the same high quality of effort and thought from ourselves as we do from others.
Inclusivity - We invite the stranger and welcome the newcomer. We value and seek input from as wide a spectrum of viewpoints and experiences as possible.
Integrity - We act consistently with our beliefs. When we err, we acknowledge the mistake and seek to make amends.

2006 Fall Festival - The Gator Slide
PTA is an excellent way to meet new friends and families and is a wonderful outlet to showcase your volunteer talents. We offer many events and activities for children and their families each year. Events to look for include the Fall Festival, our Winter Social (last year was "Disco Night!"), Holiday Breakfast & Workshop and Gator Games - our field day.
A large portion of our budget is dedicated to Children's Programs that occur throughout the school year. We bring in talented groups and individuals who provide an aspect of learning to the children that is not seen in the classroom. In the past, we've had the Chinese Acrobats, The Jumpin Jammers, The Rhinestone Ropers, Devon Dawson - the yodeling cowgirl, Spin Me A Yarn - a storyteller of our heritage, among many others. We also provide some of the programs during Red Ribbon Week and Career Day.
PTA also offers are arts and literature-based programs. The Arts & Reflections contest in the fall offers talented artists a way to showcase their unique abilities. Categories in this contest include visual art, photography, videography, literature, poetry, music, dance and choreography among others. The 2008-2009 theme is "WOW!"
Another contest offered in the spring is the Gator Tales creative writing competition. Children in all grades are selected based on writing samples they've done in the classroom. The best writers get "published" in our own Gator Tales Magazine!
All these efforts for our kids are not done alone...it takes many volunteers to make these events and activities happen. Please join us in making a difference in our children's lives. Become a member of Glenhope PTA and get involved today!
